Scatophiles, assemble!
Occasionally, one comes across news about zoo monkeys flinging excrement at touristy observers. And we can now espy a stunted evolutionary line between those jungly dirt doers and many celebrities, mainstream journalists, and liberal politicos.
- "Bullshit" is the political analysis term apparently favored by DNC Chairman Tom Perez. That Perez is roundly unpopular within his own party can be concluded by the boos with which Democrat voters often assail him.
- Jimmy Kimmel hosted the Feb. 26 Oscars. His cerebral wit sparkled: "Some of you will get to come up here on this stage tonight that the president of the United States will tweet about in all caps during his 5AM bowel movement tomorrow, and I think that's pretty darn excellent, if you ask me."
- CNN's Anderson Cooper, during a May 19 broadcast, exclaimed to Trump advocate Jeffrey Lord: "If he took a dump on his desk, you would defend it!" (Cooper subsequently apologized.)
- On June 1, doubtless for the waggish diversion of the refined and lettered set, scribbly shrew Ann Telnaes of the Washington Post criticized Trump's Paris Climate Accord withdrawal by depicting the American president on the toilet.
- Perhaps, though, the best example can be located in this June One exchange by the co-hosts of MSNBC's regrettable Morning Joe. The subject was Trump's mysterious "confefe" tweet. But, their schoolyardish metaphor was simply a mess.
Mika Brzezinski: "You said...it's like a kid pooping their pants and then saying 'I meant to do it.'"
Joe Scarborough: "Well, yes. It would be like somebody pooping their pants, and then people looking at it, and saying: 'That's modern art. Don't you understand? I'm making a statement against Russian aggression in Crimea!"
Some artists work in oils, others in acrylics. These commentators choose dung. I suppose they know themselves, best.
Mainstream journalists frequently deride Trump and his supporters for supposedly lower-grade intellects. I do not understand how they believe themselves to be perched on high when they joyfully tunnel beneath.
But I do know of an alternative career option for those zoo monkeys.
NOTE: Just as this was going to press, yet another illustration sprang up: Reza Aslan, host of CNN's Believers, said of Trump: "This piece of shit is not just an embarrassment to America and a stain on the presidency. He's an embarrassment to humankind." (Aslan offered no similar criticism of the terrorists.)
